Ethically Sourced Leathers
Every product is crafted from the best full-grain American vegetable-tanned cowhide and ethically sourced exotic leathers. We use leathers made the old-fashioned way, the same way it has been done for thousands of years.
Real leather costs more. The best leather costs even more.
We use two sources for leather
Full-grain vegetable tanned American cowhide — Vegetable-tanned leather is created with a process dating back over 6000 years, using tannins made of tree bark, soil, and roots. This method cures and preserves the leather and has long since been perfected, taking over three months to produce a single piece.
Today, only a couple tanneries in the US use this ancient method. These tanneries are the exclusive suppliers of our American leather.
Exotic hides — Exotic leathers are extraordinarily rare. Out of the few hides available globally each year, we only select the very best in the world for our products. These leathers are so extrordinarilly rare, most humans have never even seen these leathers before.
We partner with parks in southern African countries to source these leathers. Every hide is CITES*-tagged and traceable from origin to finish.
Your purchase funds anti-poaching efforts, animal conservation, and veterinary costs. It protects endangered habitats and pays game warden wages, so they can continue to protect these majestic creatures.

550 STEPS CRAFTING PROCESS. BY HAND. EVERY TIME.
Inside our Las Vegas workshop, each pair of flip flops goes through an intricate, 550-step handmade process, carefully shaping and crafting them to each customer’s preference.
From embossing the leather to cutting the straps, nothing is automated.
And it’s not just flip flops. Our wallets, belts, purses, and boots are also crafted with the highest possible standard of quality. Our master craftsmen use only premium materials to create truly unique.
Quality is our focus, not speed. We’re focused on making the absolute best leather products possible, no matter how long it takes.
THE ORDER PROCESS
WHAT HAPPENS THE MOMENT YOU CHECK OUT?
When you place an order at Toehold, here's what unfolds:
Step 1 — Order received.
Your order goes straight to our CEO for review, who immediately assigns the best craftsman for the job. No warehouse queues, no inventory log. Each pair is made to order.
Step 2 — Hide selection.
The CEO, shop manager, and craftsman will carefully select the best portion of the hide for your order.
Step 3 — Construction begins.
The 550-step process starts: cutting shaping, layering the sole, hand-shaping the strap, burnishing the edges, and more.
Step 4 — Finishing & quality control.
Your pair is hand-finished, conditioned, dried, and put through a final inspection by our CEO before it ever sees a shipping box.
Step 5 — Packed. Shipped to you.
Each pair leaves our workshop carefully inspected and boxed beautifully, with the tracking information emailed to you.
