The Heavyweight Built for the overland. Engineered without rival.
Introducing the Heavyweight — the most formidable flip flop we have ever produced. With nearly three times the tread of our standard offering, it is bigger, badder, heavier, tougher, and more durable than anything else in our collection. And because nothing else in our collection compares to anything else on the market, the Heavyweight stands alone as the strongest flip flop in existence.
This is not a flip flop built for the boardwalk. It is built for terrain that punishes lesser footwear into submission — engineered for the most rugged, ultra-hardcore overland experience imaginable, and refined to a standard the rest of the industry has yet to reach.
A definitive addition to the collection of anyone who demands the absolute pinnacle of Toughness.
***This tread and architecture cam be applied to any flip flops we make, message us for custom orders***
If you have come looking for cheap, mass-produced, foreign-made flip flops, you’ve come to the wrong place.
We build the strongest, rarest, and most expensive flip flops on Earth. They are engineered for the harshest conditions the planet can offer, from brutal sun to frigid rain and every climate in between.
These are not made for everyone. They are made for those who recognize excellence on sight. For those who understand that precision and patience are not luxuries, but disciplines.
Quality is our passion. Durability is our guarantee.
THE WORLD'S BEST LEATHER
Every pair of Toehold flip flops begins with full-grain American vegetable-tanned cowhide leather, cured in the old-fashioned way. This is the way leather has been cured for thousands of years, drawing on tree bark, roots, and natural tannins.
The process is patient. A single hide takes three months to tan, and what emerges is leather unlike anything else on Earth: extraordinarily strong, naturally antimicrobial, moisture-wicking, and beautiful in a way no machine can replicate.
This is the leather that forms the soul of every pair. It’s the core, the base, the foundation upon which everything else is built.
Worn over time, it does what only true leather can do. It contours. It molds. It shapes itself to your foot until no other pair in the world will feel quite the same. The zero-drop architecture reinforces this relationship between your foot and the ground, supporting natural alignment and strengthening the foot with every step.
Our exotic leathers are rarer still. So rare, in fact, that even the great fashion houses of Paris and Milan cannot reliably acquire them. And why should they? This caliber of material is reserved for those who demand timeless craftsmanship, and are willing to wait for it.
FEATURED STRENGTH
The thong (the cord that runs between your toes) is engineered to be both extraordinarily strong and almost undetectable to the touch. Here, the strength is in its subtlety.
The straps are tuned to the same standard. Their tuck-under construction holds the flip flop close to your foot, eliminating the “slap” that defines lesser pairs and allowing you to move quietly, deliberately, and confidently across any terrain.
Pure copper rivets reinforce the build, passing entirely through the tread to create a grounding channel between you and the earth. No other flip flop in the world is built this way.
HANDMADE HERITAGE
Each pair of Toehold flip flops are handcrafted in the United States, using a 550-step process that marries ancient leatherwork with modern precision.
Nothing is automated. Nothing is rushed. Every cut, every layer, every burnished edge is the work of a master craftsman who refuses to compromise.
We are not competing to be quick. We are competing to be perfect.
ONE OF A KIND
No two pairs of Toehold flip flops are alike.
Every hide carries its own grain, its own character, and its own story, and we preserve that on purpose. Our leather collection is among the most extensive in the world, drawing from hides most people will never lay eyes on in a lifetime.
Wear them, and the leather contours to the shape of your foot. Age them, and they develop a patina that money cannot buy and a factory cannot duplicate. The longer you own a pair of Toehold flip flops, the more they become yours alone.
ETHICALLY SOURCED LEATHER
Initially, we rejected the idea of using African leathers.
Then we did more research.
What we discovered was a meticulous, conservation-driven process that changed our minds completely.
When an animal perishes, game wardens respond quickly to harvest its remains, distributing the meat to local villagers and turning the hide over to government officials.
Each hide is tagged, tracked, and routed to a government-regulated tannery. Every step is audited for ethical and conservation compliance. Toehold operates in strict accordance with CITES* law, and every product we make is fully traceable from origin to finish.
When you invest in Toehold, you invest in more than craftsmanship. You fund game warden wages and support anti-poaching operations. Most of all, you protect endangered habitats, and the most majestic creatures on Earth, for generations to come.

Toehold uses a minimum 550-step process that’s done almost entirely by hand. We focus on perfection and precision — not speed. In a world of instant gratification, Toehold preserves the timeless tradition of patience and anticipation.
Most customers are still wearing their first pairs after many years.
Nothing holds up to our mileage. The length of time doesn’t matter, but what you're able to do in them matters.
We know of some of our customers that walk over 100 miles a week in the same pair of flip flops they’ve had for years.
Our flip flops have been to Machu Picchu, the top of Kilimanjaro, around Mount Fuji, been worn across lava flows in Hawaii, and even in combat..
These flip flops have been worn on hunting trips across the planet. Some people have even run ultra marathons in our flip flops.
To extend the life of your flip flops, simply pick up your feet when you walk. Similar to a car tire, you want to make sure your stride is balanced and in alignment.
We recommend turning over your flip flops periodically to check for wear. If one section is wearing out faster than the others, it’s important to correct your step.
There are two types of customization.
One is simply picking out exotic leather; for example, purple elephant straps with a black stingray base. This is more of selecting a custom combination.
The other type of customization is when a customer wants their company branding or specific logo to be embossed onto a pair of flip flops.
Please note that only cowhide can absorb the embossing.
Both of these can be acquired by simply messaging us to place a custom order.
Please contact us to place and order, custom embossing start around $895 and can go up depending on complexity.
We use two types of leather.
Our full-grain, vegetable-tanned cowhide leather is sourced right here in the USA.
Vegetable-tanned leather is created with a process dating back over 6000 years, using tannins made of tree bark, soil, and roots.
This method cures and preserves the leather and has long since been perfected, taking over three months to produce a single piece.
Today, only a couple tanneries in the US use this ancient method. These tanneries are the exclusive suppliers of our American leather.
We also use exotic leathers from some of the rarest animals in the world.
Exotic leathers are extraordinarily rare. Out of the few hides available globally each year, we only select the very best in the world for our products.
These leathers are so extraordinarily rare, most humans have never see this type of leather before.
We partner with parks in southern African countries to source these leathers. Every hide is CITES*-tagged and traceable from origin to finish.
Your purchase funds anti-poaching efforts, animal conservation, and veterinary costs. It protects endangered habitats and pays game warden wages, so they can continue to protect these majestic creatures.

The short answer is yes.
Do keep in mind that salt water is one of the most corrosive natural materials on Earth, and will eventually destroy anything with time.
For example, salt water will destroy a beautiful ship, a giant bridge, etc.
When exposing flip flops to saltwater, be sure to rinse them with fresh water and let it dry in the shade.
This also applies to any other item you take in the ocean.
Nah.
